Patrick Soon-Shiong

Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong holds a degree in Medicine from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa, and a Master of Science from the University of British Columbia where he also did his residency. After initiating his surgical training at UCLA, Dr. Soon-Shiong joined the faculty of the UCLA School of Medicine as a surgeon in 1983. He has pioneered treatments in both diabetes and cancer, published more than 100 scientific papers and holds 50 U.S. patents. Dr. Soon-Shiong has also developed and sold two multi-billion dollar pharmaceutical companies, APP Pharmaceuticals and Abraxis Bioscience. His California Capital Equity, LLC, recently announced a joint venture with Toumaz Ltd., a pioneer in low cost, ultra low power wireless communications and broadcast technology. With major support from Dr. Soon-Shiong and his wife Michelle Chan Soon-Shiong, St. Johns Health Center of Santa Monica recently opened the Chan Soon-Shiong Center for Life Sciences. Dr. Soon-Shiong is the recipient of the 2007 Ellis Island Medal of Honor and the Caritas Award from St. John’s Health Center. |
